Our Operating System
What is our body’s operating system?
Who put it there?
What happens when the software has errors?
Let us get technical. The operating system of our body helps run the complex function of the body parts, its cells and coordinates their activities and functions. It is very similar to the OS of a computer. The hardware of our body requires an awareness of its surroundings to help keep up with the changes that happen around us. The operating system optimizes our cell functions, our tissue functions, our organ functions, our system functions and finally our organism and our interactions with our surroundings.
Another important function of the software is limiting our physical growth. What is the limit of our physical growth? How does our body know when to stop growing and how do we retain our body shape inspite of constant cell multiplication? The answer to these questions are not coded in our DNA, but somewhere else in the body. This is where the operating system concept offer answers.
The capability of a single cell is complex but still limited. When trillions of cells are working together, its combined capabilities are many orders of magnitude greater than the sum total of the individual cells. Combining this with the fact that each cell is a power generator and that every cell has many levels of processing opportunities makes the self generated operating system very very powerful. Please understand that I am not just talking about our brain. I am mentioning the fact that almost all of our cells carry the same potential as that of our brain cells in the domain of information processing though I agree that the brain cells are more optimized for information processing with its abundant mitochondrial network delivering enough energy.
Eastern medical systems talks about 96 subsystems of our operating system software. Each of these subsystems takes care of the different aspects of our body activities. The three main subsystems are the Vatha, Pitha and Kapha, Vatha deals with mobility, Pitha controls metabolism and Kapha takes care of the infrastructure. A balance in activities of each is important to keep our body healthy and well.
In the last blog, I spoke about the network. The information filling the network is the operating system and the applications that I would be discussing in my next blog. The functions fulfilled by our network are actuated by our operating system and its constituent subsystems.
